Atlantic Yards developer Forest City Ratner has begun tearing down the seven-story, 359,000-square-foot property called 10 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn.

Demolition was expected to begin last year, but there was a $40 million loan in default on the property. Forest City Ratner intends to build an apartment complex on the former candy-factory site at 625 Fulton Street between Hudson Avenue and Rockwell Place.

New permits for the project have yet to be filed with the Department of Buildings. The section of the building closest to Dekalb Avenue has been entirely razed. [Brownstoner]Mark Maurer
