509 West 38th Street and Ismael Leyva

At a community board meeting, Iliad Development revealed details of its plan to develop a residential tower at 509 West 38th Street.

The plan, which was first introduced more than two years ago, features a 30-story rental apartment building that consists of studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments. Of the 225 total units, 46 are designated as affordable housing, and will only be available to families who make less than 60 percent of the area’s median income. The building will feature a roof deck and fitness center, while the exterior facade will be built out of brick, steel and glass. Ismael Leyva Architects is responsible for the design.

The site, which was previously occupied by an industrial building, is located in the Hudson Yards Special Zoning District. Iliad Development contributed to a district improvement fund and designated 29,000 square feet of its plan to community facilities, to ensure maximum height and additional air rights.

According to Department of Building records, pre-construction work has been ongoing since 2012. [Curbed]Sasha von Oldershausen
