Scaffolding and construction equipment has been cleared from a new affordable housing development at 535 East 11th Street Near Avenue B, indicating that it will soon open to residents.Dubbed the Mary Spink Apartments, the project was subsidized by the HPD’s Supportive Housing Loan Program and will provide affordable housing for homeless and mentally ill residents of the East Village, according to EVGrieve
The eight-story building will feature 46 studio apartments that “will allow the residents to learn to live independently in a nurturing environment,” according to a description of the building at the website of Edelman Sultan Knox Wood Architects.
The project also includes a small public courtyard, and a narrow alley connecting East 11th and the adjacent Joseph Sauer Park. [EVGrieve] – Christopher Cameron
