Reporter Adam Pincus nabbed the “Best Commercial Trade Magazine Report” for a story that looked into the Empire State Building’s impending IPO.

The Real Deal received three major honors in the National Association of Real Estate Editors’ 64th annual awards, which recognizes top reporting, writing and editing about residential and commercial real estate. The group held its awards ceremony in Houston this past weekend.

The Real Deal walked away with an award in the “Best Residential Trade Magazine” category for 2013, with the judges commending a “scrappy magazine that breaks news in the most competitive real estate market in the country.”

TRD reporter Adam Pincus also nabbed a silver award in the “Best Commercial Trade Magazine Report” category for a story that looked at the impending IPO of the Empire State Building. The story uncovered several investors with an ownership stake in the building that had never been documented before. It also featured graphics that showed the tenant lineup in the iconic building.

“This entry was an unconventional way to present information to the reader,” the judges wrote. “Eschewing traditional narrative in favor of exploded graphics, [Pincus] x-rayed the Empire State Building to reveal its managers and users floor by floor.”

Katherine Clarke, now a real estate editor at the New York Daily News, received a gold award for “Best Breaking News Report,” for a piece that first reported that Manhattan superbroker Dolly Lenz had exited brokerage Douglas Elliman to start her own firm.

“The reporter’s deep source base was invaluable in tracking down rumors that New York City’s top real estate agent, Dolly Lenz, was starting her own firm,” the judges wrote. “[This was a story] being chased by numerous publications in the city.”

Last year, The Real Deal took home four NAREE awards, and also received a general excellence award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
