The city has set aside $5.8 million to renovate the abandoned New York State Pavilion in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

The city Parks Department commissioned studies that showed it would cost roughly $72 million to fully restore the pavilion and make it available again for public use. The funds provided will go toward fixing the electrical system, and repairing the observation-deck platforms and staircases.

Mayor Bill de Blasio contributed $4.2 million of the funds, while the City Council and Borough President Melinda Katz provided the rest. Katz unveiled plans in February to assemble a task force to bring civic leaders and officials together to work on ways to save the “Tent of Tomorrow” and the iconic towers alongside it.
