A group run by former campaign aides to Mayor Bill de Blasio is making efforts to convince Brooklyn neighbors that the plan to redevelop Long Island College Hospital is a win for the community.
The group, the Campaign for One New York, is listed as the return address on mailers that praise the deal, which will see developer Fortis Group build new housing on the hospital site and significantly reduce medical services, Capital New York reported.
The Campaign for One New York previously operated under the name UPKNYC, according to Capital New York.
In the mailer, Gary Reilly, a board member of Carroll Gardens Neighborhood Association, called the outcome “much better than we expected.” The group was one of several that sued the city over the sale of LICH to Fortis. While campaigning for office, de Blasio was arrested while protesting plans to transform the hospital facilities into condos. [Capital NY] — Tom DiChristopher
