Tower in Gale International’s Songdo City set to open

New York City-based firm developed city that is home to South Korea’s tallest building

South Korea’s new tallest building, located in the city developed by New York City-based development firm Gale International and designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, opens tomorrow.

The 1,001-foot, 68-story Northeast Asia Trade Tower cost roughly $614 million to build and is located within the Songdo International Business District, a 1,500-acre, 100 million-square-foot new city jointly developed by Gale International and steel company POSCO E&G of South Korea.

The skyscraper is comprised of 2 million square feet of gross floor area, and includes a three-story underground parking garage, pedestrian subway access and an observation deck on the 65th floor. Daewoo International, Korea’s largest trading company and a subsidiary of POSCO, owns the tower and will relocate its offices and 1,500 employees to the tower from the company’s current headquarters in Seoul this October. The 34th-64th floors will be occupied by the 423-suite Oakwood Premier Incheon hotel. — Julie Strickland
