WEEKENDEDITION Preservationists are fighting the Frick Museum’s plans to expand and build over top of the only courtyard in the city designed by famed landscape architect Russell Page.

“This is a masterpiece of landscape architecture,” Charles Birnbaum, president of the Cultural Landscape Foundation, told the New York Post.

The garden at the Frick, on East 70th Street, was planted back in the 1970s after three townhouses were demolished to make way for an expansion.

However, museum directors told The Post that the garden was never meant to be permanent. [NYP] –Christopher Cameron
