WEEKENDEDITION A major Manhattan landlord has hired two celebrity lawyers to defend himself against drug charges.

Earlier this month, Mark Perlbinder, 71, was arrested in Bridgehampton after picking up a package that had been sent from the city on a Hamptons Jitney bus. Inside the package police allegedly found Xanax, oxycodone pills and cocaine, according to the New York Post.

Soon after, Perlbinder hired Gerald Shargel, whose clients have included John Gotti, Ted Ammon’s killer Danny Pelosi and David Letterman’s extorter Robert “Joe” Halderman. Perlbinder also tapped Sag Harbor lawyer Edward Burke Jr., who has represented Lizzie Grubman, Jason Kidd and Goldman Sachs executive Jason Lee.

Perlbinder has also brought on Howard Rubenstein’s firm Rubenstein Associates to handle public relations.

Perlbinder owns a 30-acre estate in Sagaponack, built Morgan Court at 211 Madison Avenue, co-owns River Court at 429 East 52nd Street, as well as the Revere at 400 East 54th Street. [NYP] Christopher Cameron
