On Wednesday, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corp. is expected to review 14 designs from architects vying to build residential towers on two sites at Pier 6.

The development is slated to rise at the southern terminus of Brooklyn Bridge Park. Site A can accommodate a 315-foot tower with up to 290 residential units. On site B, which has ground-floor retail and frontage on Furman Street, developers can build up to 140 residential units in a building rising to a maximum of 155 feet. Addresses have not yet been assigned to the building sites.

The request for proposal issued by the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corp. called for 130,000 gross square feet of permanently affordable housing for moderate and middle income tenants. Architects were also tasked with creating “welcoming ground floors” at the entrance to the park and streetscapes that enhance the pedestrian experience.

Some of the community amenities architects included are a swimming pool, school and public restrooms.

Revenue from the Pier 6 project and Toll Brother’s Pierhouse on Pier 1 is meant to fund upkeep at the park and maintenance of the piers. Some community groups opposed to the development of Pier 6 have sought to stall the process, while elected officials such as City Council members Brad Lander and Stephen Levin have asked the city to find alternative financing for the park. — Tom DiChristopher

They are overbuilding this area already .. too much inventory without the services to build a proper neighborhood.. Did you see those prices on the Toll Brothers Pier House .. That’s unsustainable !

    • Crian Bashman

If they were overbuilding you wouldn’t be seeing those prices at the Pier House, because then people wouldn’t want to live there.
