“The demolition contractors wanted to kill me because I kept finding things I wanted to keep,” landscape architect Lisa Switkin of James Corner Field Operations told the New York Daily News.

The City Council approved the plan in May. The development will have a total of 538,000 square feet of affordable apartments and the affordable units will be spread throughout all the buildings on the site, as per an agreement the developer reached with the de Blasio administration. Initially, 20 percent of the building was slated to be affordable. [NYDN]Mark Maurer
