Record sale at San Remo as combo unit goes for $26M

Off-market transaction tops recent $21M deal for Dustin Hoffman's apartment

A pair of apartments that were combined into a 6,000 square-foot luxury pad in the storied San Remo co-op on the Upper West Side has traded hands for a record $26.4 million in an off-market sale, property records show.

Unit 6E/6F in the white-glove, Art Deco building at 146 Central Park West was picked up by the Northway Revocable Trust for $26.4 million – a record for the 1929 building designed by architect Emory Roth, records filed with the city today show.

The trust was represented Brown Harris Stevens broker John Burger.

The six-bed, seven-bath spread covers 6,150 square feet and has 10 windows facing Central Park. Seller Joy Fishman and her late husband purchased unit 6E in 2005 for $10 million and then four years later bought unit 6F for $4.1 million.

Jack Fishman was an esteemed doctor who helped develop a drug used to treat heroin and narcotic overdoses. He died in December at the age of 83.

Joy Fishman was represented by Dan Fishman of Corcoran, a family relative.

The twin-towered San Remo has counted among its residents celebrities such as Rita Hayworth, Bono, Steven Spielberg, Donna Karan, Demi Moore, Tiger Woods and Diane Keaton.

The building is known for having a more-relaxed board compared to comparable properties on the Upper East Side, though the board did famously reject Madonna in 1985.

Earlier this year actor Dustin Hoffman sold his 8,000 square foot apartment in the building for $21 million.
