The noise-sensitive Greenwich Village residents that brought a case against a famous, Prohibition-era pub should start investing in earplugs.
A Manhattan judge has tossed the lawsuit, which attempted to block Chumley’s at 86 Bedford Street from reopening. They argued that the bar attracted noisy, late-night patrons, according to the New York Post.
Chumley’s was a favorite dive of literary giants like Norman Mailer and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
In her ruling, Justice Barbara Jaffe wrote, “In the modern world, some degree of noise, tension and discomfort is the inevitable concomitant of urban life.”
