Coney Island Houses to receive $108M in Sandy aid
The money will also go toward resiliency efforts such as back up generators
A $108 million grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be granted to the Coney Island Houses to make repairs in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, according to an announcement from Mayor Bill de Blasio and Senator Charles Schumer.
The money will be used to replace boilers and repair damaged electrical systems at the five-building New York City Housing Authority development, Crain’s reported. The money will also pay for resiliency efforts, such as installing back-up generators and installing storm barriers.
This new grant is part of a $60 billion package that was approved by Congress after the storm in October 2012. At least 15 other NYCHA developments that were damaged during the storm will also receive money for improvements. [Crain’s] — Claire Moses
