UPDATED 4:30 p.m., October 1: An application to construct a new 24-story building as part of the Essex Crossing development was filed with the city on Wednesday, according to city records.
Handel Architects, the designer of the project, filed the application for the 380,000-square-foot building at 115 Delancey Street.
The proposed new building will have at least 165,777-square-foot residential component divided across 195 apartments. The remaining roughly 134,770 square feet will be commercial space. The building will stand 285 feet tall.
The Department of Housing Preservation and Development owns the land, according to city records. Delancey Associates — a collaboration of L+M Development, BFC Partners and Taconic Investment Partners — is developing the Seward Park site.
In June, tenants at the corner of Essex and Delancey — including Olympic Restaurant at 115 Delancey — were told to vacate the premises to make way for the new development.
A representative from Handel Architects could not immediately be reached on Wednesday morning.
The Essex Crossing development, made up of nine sites on six acres, will total 1.9 million square feet of residential, commercial and community space — including a park — on the Lower East Side. Most of the sites have been vacant since the 1960s.
