Brandeis University is selling its alumni house in New York City.

The university is listing the Upper East Side property for $33 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Brandeis House, located at 12 East 77th Street, was used for events and housed classrooms and offices. There is an apartment on the top floor.

The university’s president announced a sale in an email to alumni on Sept. 24. He wrote that the proceeds of the sale will go into the school’s $766 million endowment.

The house is five stories and was once owned by Reginald Vanderbilt, Gloria Vanderbilt’s father.

According to a Brandeis spokesman, the university has outgrown the house and so alumni events will be held elsewhere in the city going forward. [WSJ] — Claire Moses
