An unusual boutique hotel is slated to open in Manhattanville’s Factory District.
Former Managing Director of Soho House North America, Mark Somen is planning to open the swanky uptown location, which will be part hotel, part private clubhouse.
“Harlem is so ripe for something like this,” he told the New York Daily News.
Uptown House, the uptown equivalent of the Meatpacking District’s exclusive Soho House, will take up 80,000 square feet in the Malthouse, located on Amsterdam Avenue between West 126th and West 128th streets, according to the newspaper.
Construction will likely take about 22 months, the newspaper reported, and will cost between $35 million and $40 million. The club will include 40 rooms, a pool and three restaurants, two bars, a screening room and a library, among other things.
Members of the club — 40 percent of of whom will live or work in Harlem — will be required to mentor a child from Harlem or the Bronx, according to the newspaper. [NYDN] — Claire Moses
