Several submitted designs for the proposed Guggenheim museum in Helsinki have been a little odd, to put it mildly. Which isn’t to say that they’re bad. Just that some are quite weird.

The Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition is an international architectural competition organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. All 1,715 anonymously submitted designs for the proposed Finnish museum from 77 countries are available for any and all to see on the website, http://designguggenheimhelsinki.org.

Over at Curbed, some of the strangest design proposals, some of which look like spaceships out of 1950s pulp sci-fi novels, some of which resemble giant beetles, are featured.

The competition was launched in June. The winning design is scheduled to be announced in June 2015. [Curbed] —TRD
