Samsung Electronics Co. is looking for roughly one million square feet of office space in Manhattan.

The company is looking at new or existing towers, according to the Wall Street Journal. Samsung already has corporate offices in New Jersey and Silicon Valley. Samsung wants to own its space, rather than lease it, which could complicate the search, the newspaper reported.

A Samsung spokesman wouldn’t comment on the specifics of the search, according to the Journal, but told the newspaper that “dramatic growth in the U.S.” caused expanded operations in the country.

The search for the new corporate office — which would probably house between 5,000 and 7,000 employees, is in its earliest stages.

In September, the electronics giant signed a lease for 15,000 square feet of office space in Chelsea. In July, Samsung signed a lease for the entirety of 837 Washington Street in the Meatpacking District. [WSJ] — Claire Moses
