Food Emporium is closing two Manhattan locations
And sources say more closures are likely to come
The Food Emporium supermarket chain is planning to significantly downsize.
Two of the chain’s 13 stores across the city are closing within the next several months, and industry sources told Crain’s that others are also likely to shutter.
In early December, the Food Emporium at 1211 Madison Avenue and East 87th Street will be replaced by a Morton Williams store, according to a Morton Williams executive.
And in January, the Kips Bay Food Emporium at 200 East 32nd Street will also close.
The Food Emporium in Kips Bay has apparently felt the squeeze for a nearby Fairway Market that moved into the neighborhood in December 2012.
