Rockefeller Center’s 85-foot-tall Norway spruce promises to draw unbearable crowds. But for alternative holiday fun check out downtown Manhattan’s South Street Seaport.

The South Street Seaport kicked off the holiday season this week with the lighting of its own 55-foot Christmas tree, according to the New York Post.

Its ice rink will also host curling lessons every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. ($50 per person). And on Saturdays, the 1920s and ’30s at Dandy Wellington’s weekly Vintage Skate sessions will take the rink — Wellington’s live band, ice skaters and dancers will hit the ice in full vintage attire from 5 to 8 p.m.

And on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m., the seaport will provide wireless noise-canceling headsets for a silent disco. [NYP]Christopher Cameron
