The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved Sherwood Equities and Arun Bhatia Development’s plans to raze a three-story Flatiron District building and put up a 16-story condominium property.

Sherwood and Arun Bhatia plan to construct a condo building on the site, located on 8-10 West 17th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues. The top two floors will house a duplex penthouse.

The Catholic Medical Mission Board long occupied the Belfatto & Pavarini-designed property. The Historic Districts Council also signed off on the demolition.

“It is demonstrated that this building is not a colleague among the urbane, Modern buildings completed by architects Belfatto and Pavarini,” Kelly Carroll of the Historic Districts Council said, as reported by New York YIMBY.

She also said, however, that the “design for the new building left something to be desired.” [NY YIMBY]Mark Maurer
