Benenson putting up mixed-use building on post office site

Former Peter Stuyvesant branch site to become resi/retail development

Benenson Capital Partners on Wednesday revealed its plans for the site of the now-shuttered Peter Stuyvesant Post Office in the East Village.

The developer is proposing to put up an 8-story mixed use building housing 114 apartments on the property at 432 East 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A.

The structure will hold 87,646 square feet of residential space and 8,655 square feet of commercial space, totaling 96,301 square feet between a north and south building on the lot.

The retail space will be on the ground floor, with floors two through eight dedicated to residential. Amenities include an exercise room, a recreation room, an outdoor recreation space, and a bicycle storage room.

The Peter Stuyvesant Post Office was shuttered in February and Benenson Capital filed demolition plans for the building and a neighboring stationery shop in October.

Robert Laudenschlager of SLCE Architects will design the building.
