The late comedian Joan Rivers embodied over-the-top glamour — and had an apartment to match. Her decadent Upper East Side penthouse, where she lived until her death in September, is now on the market for $28 million.

The apartment, which Rivers purchased in 1988, occupies the top three stories of a turn-of-the-19th century Guilded Age mansion at 1 East 62nd Street, just off of Fifth Avenue. The home features four bedrooms and massive entertaining spaces including some rooms with 23-foot ceilings, a ballroom, music room and details including crystal chandeliers and antique columns.

Leighton Candler of the Corcoran Group is marketing the home for Rivers’ estate, which is managed by her daughter Melissa Rivers.

Rivers died unexpectedly in September during a routine endoscopy procedure.

Rivers had an ongoing dispute with another condo owner in the building, socialite Elizabeth Hazan, who defaulted on $200,000 in condo fees. [NYDN] — Tess Hofmann
