Local community leaders in Midtown are hoping to stop the creation of any more supertall towers.

A Community Board 5 task force is calling for a moratorium on massive skyscrapers in the vicinity of 57th Street, where seven new massive towers are currently being developed, according to DNAinfo. Five more projects are being planned.

Layla Law-Gisiko, the chair of the task force, told DNA that “we really need to hit the pause button.”

The task force issued a report that states that Midtown’s zoning and land use regulations need to be changed to control the rapid development of skyscrapers there.

“This is not a war between CB5 and development,” Law-Gisiko told DNA. “It is just a call for good, comprehensive zoning and planning.” [DNAinfo] — Claire Moses
