Council speaker sets timeline for East Harlem rezoning
"Clear neighborhood plan" to be in place by November: Mark-Viverito
City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito has set a timeline for the rezoning of East Harlem, with expectations to “have a clear community-based neighborhood plan” in place by November, she said Wednesday.
The rezoning, along with similar efforts in East New York and the Bronx, is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to preserve and add more affordable housing units in the city over the next 10 years.
Mark-Viverito established a steering committee made up of local organizations, activists and politicians in April to help recommend a rezoning plan to the city. The committee will hold five public forums and seven committee meetings before submitting recommendations this fall, according to DNAinfo.
De Blasio announced a similar timeline for the rezoning of East New York earlier this month, with a land use review set to start by September.
