Longstanding questions about the 2014 gas explosion in East Harlem at 1644 And 1646 Park Avenue that killed eight and injured 50 are about to be answered.

The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to release its investigation into the blast on Tuesday, Capital New York reported. The report will likely focus on issues that are Con Edison’s, the city’s and the state’s responsibility.

The report will look at plastic piping that was installed in 2011 and a water main that collapsed on the pipeline before the explosion, sources told Capital. It’s one of the biggest investigations into gas safety ever, a Public Service Commission spokesperson told the website.

“Since the tragic event, the PSC has proactively strengthened its regulatory oversight of the State’s gas utilities,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Capital. “The PSC has also taken significant steps to ensure that New York’s gas safety regulations remain among the most stringent in the nation.”

The explosion took place in March 2014 and destroyed multiple buildings. It also closed down the nearby Metro-North commuter line station. Hundreds of lawsuits were filed against the city following the blast. [Capital NY] — Claire Moses
