Maison Kayser inks lease at United American's retail condo at Brooklyn Municipal Building

Skyrocketing bread prices were one of the key causes of the French revolution. But in Downtown Brooklyn, the arrival of a posh bakery is unlikely to be met with similar resistance.

Maison Kayser, the French bakery known for its baguettes, brioches and gluten-free Gonesse bread, inked a 12-year lease for the final retail space at the Brooklyn Municipal Building, which has fully retenanted.

The Laboz brothers’ United American Land paid $10 million three years ago for the 50,000-square-foot retail condominium at 210 Joralemon Street. United American brought in a complete roster of new tenants including Neiman Marcus’ LastCall, cosmetics chain Sephora, Yoga Works and candy store It’s Sugar.

The restaurant will bring new dining options to Downtown Brooklyn, an area criticized as one lacking in lunch and dinner alternatives for the growing submarket.

Maison Kayser inked the lease Wednesday for 3,000 square feet on the ground floor and 1,500 square feet on the lower level of the building. Its address will be 57 Court Street. The asking rent was $160 per square foot.

Paul Berkman of JLL represented Maison Kayser and Jason Pennington of Ripco Real Estate represented United American.

“There Is No Place to entertain anyone for lunch or breakfast in Downtown Brooklyn. There is not one place,” Albert Laboz, a principal with United American, said. The cafe, he added, will bring such an option.
