A woman who allegedly stalked Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is now accused of lying to score a subsidized apartment in Tribeca.
“This is a case about this defendant taking something she had no right to take,” Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Kenn Kern said in court.
Louise Meanwell allegedly claimed in paperwork given to her landlord, Rose Associates, that her daughter lived with her at 88 Leonard Street. However, she did not have custody of her daughter, according to the New York Daily News.
Her attorney, Lawrence LaBrew, told the Daily News that prosecutors cannot prove charges, which include grand larceny, falsification of business records and offering a false instrument for filing.
“There is no grand larceny because no one’s going to come in here and say $50,000 was taken,” LaBrew said.
Meanwell is being tried separately for allegedly stalking, harassing and blackmailing Cashman. She claims to have had an affair with him while he was married. [NYDN] – Christopher Cameron
