Brooklyn building heights set to rise under new rules

District 2 change will allow 5 to 30 foot higher structures, depending on zoning

It still won’t be Manhattan, but proposed zoning changes will allow buildings in some parts of Brooklyn to rise a bit higher.

The Department of City Planning announced changes that will lift building height caps in Brooklyn’s District 2 in order to make room for more “contextual” ground floor retail.

Structures in DUMBO, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Vinegar Hill will be allowed to be between 5 and 30 feet taller, depending on area zoning.

City planning officials said the rules would come with a provision requiring ground floor ceiling heights to rise as well, rendering buildings more attractive as retail sites, DNAinfo reported. [DNAinfo] – Ariel Stulberg
