Eli Lilly expands Manhattan footprint

The pharmaceutical is adding 30,000 square feet at the Alexandria Center for Life Science

Eli Lilly & Co. announced plans this week to expand its footprint in NYC, adding 30,000 square feet at the Alexandria Center for Life Science, a biotech center at 450 East 29th Street.

The additional space will make room for roughly 50 new jobs and additional research space that will be used to focus on the immune system and cancer treatments, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“Our diverse research approach and expansion in New York will ultimately put us in a strong position to advance the delivery of innovative medicines to patients,” Jan Lundberg, president of Lilly Research Labs, told the Journal.

The Indiana-based company said the expansion would improve collaborations between local academic institutions and medical schools.

The Alexandria Center for Life Science is also home to pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer Inc. and Roche Holding AG. The complex consists of two towers with more than 700,000 square feet. [WSJ] – Christopher Cameron
