Friends with Mary: Plans filed for BK marijuana dispensary

After signing medical marijuana company Palliatech to a lease over the summer for what could be the city’s first pot dispensary, a Downtown Brooklyn landlord filed plans to transform the location into a retail space for the marijuana seller.

Alterations at 425 Fulton Street would convert 3,000 square feet on the building’s second floor into a Palliatech dispensary, according to permit applications filed with the city.

The two-story, 6,000-square-foot commercial building’s current certificate of occupancy specifies a diner restaurant or a franchise, however, so Manhasset, N.Y.-based landlord Colin Development would need to file additional permits to change the property’s use, according to New York YIMBY.

As YIMBY notes, the plans are somewhat surprising given that the New York State Department of Health refused to approve any medical marijuana locations for Brooklyn upon releasing its list of dispensary locations this past summer.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the state’s relatively strict medical marijuana program into law last year, prohibiting any dispensaries from selling within 1,000 feet of a school or church.
