The Lowline may become a reality sooner than expected. The city has announced that it will consider proposals for the 60,000-square-foot former trolley terminal beneath Delancey Street.
Tomorrow, the Economic Development Corp will put out a “Request for Expressions of Interest” for the Lowline space, according to the Lo-Down. EDC officials plan to brief members of Community Board 3 about the RFEI next month.
The EDC told the Lo-Down that the city is looking for “creative responses to activate the space.”
Architect James Ramsey first conceived of transforming the Essex Street Trolley Terminal into a stunning underground park back in 2009. He even developed sunlight-channeling technology to allow plants to flourish underground.
