Film production giant Steiner Studios is planning a new 179,000-square-foot building at its Brooklyn Navy Yard studio complex, according to a permit application filed with the Department of Buildings.

The new, three-story Building Will House Six New Soundstages Along Kent Avenue, a Steiner Studios spokesperson confirmed. In addition to the soundstages, the property would house additional space for workshops and a cafeteria on its first floor, according to the filing.

The second floor would hold dressing rooms, hair and makeup rooms, and wardrobe storage, while the top floor would house production offices and a dimmer room for the studio’s lighting.

Midtown-based Dattner Architects is the project’s architect of record, according to the filing.

Steiner Studios’ current 580,000-square-foot complex spans 26 acres in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and is the largest film and TV production complex on the East Coast. The studios opened in 2004 and feature 10 soundstages spanning 131,000 square feet of space, according to its website.

Steiner Studios head Douglas Steiner secured a roughly $300 million loan earlier this year to build a planned 54-story residential tower at 33 Schermerhorn Street in Downtown Brooklyn.

Kaufman Astoria Studios announced plans earlier this year to add a new 18,000-square-foot soundstage to the Queens film studio’s 500,000-square-foot lot.
