Gourmet food court to open at Penn Station in January

A plethora of eateries associated with world famous chefs is coming to Vornado Realty Trust’s 2 Penn Plaza, above Penn Station.

An 8,000-square-foot food court, known as the Pennsy at Pennsylvania Avenue, will open at the address in early January. It will feature restaurants from celebrity gourmets such as chef Mario Batali and butcher Pat LaFrieda.

Caterer Mary Giuliani, who serves the likes of actor Bradley Cooper and designer Stella McCartney, masterminded the project. Her own restaurant, Mario by Mary, will open at The Food Court as well, the New York Post reported.

The space, at the base of Vornado’s 1.5 million-square-foot office building, was long home to a Borders book shop. It’s been occupied by a series of pop-up tenants over the last years.

Other restaurants at the court will include Franklin Becker’s the Little Beat, Marc Forgione’s Lobster Press and a vegan restaurant, the Cinnamon Snail.

In 2014, Vornado signed marketing firm UBM to a 26,000-square-foot lease the building. Earlier that year, the Dolan family’s Madison Square Garden Company renewed its 258,000-square-foot lease there. [NYP] – Ariel Stulberg
