  • The Schinasi House at 351 Riverside Drive

The longtime owners of the Upper West Side’s Schinasi House, the 12,000-square-foot mansion at 351 Riverside Drive, have slashed their asking price to $20 million in an attempt to take advantage of a recent rebound in Manhattan townhouse sales, the listing broker said today. That’s still a potentially record-breaking price for a single-family home on the Upper West Side.

The house, whose listing boasts that it is the last free-standing, single-family mansion in the borough, was originally asking $31 million when it hit the market in 2006. It has been on and off the market since then, most recently asking $24.9 million. [more]

The 13-room townhouse at 247 Central Park West, which broke an Upper West Side sales record when it last changed hands, is back on the market for another potentially record-breaking $32 million.

The 12,270-square-foot mansion, near West 85th Street, belongs to retail mogul Keith Monda, the former Coach co-president and chief operating officer, property records show. He bought it from Walt Disney’s grandniece, Abigail Disney, for $15.5 million in 2006 — at the time marking the Upper West Side’s highest-priced single-family townhouse sale to date. Currently, that title belongs to 26 West 76th Street, which sold for $19.3 million last month.

The five-bedroom, Edward Angell-designed spread is one of the few remaining single-family homes on Central Park West. Erected in 1887 by builder William Noble, the home would have been demolished in the 1920s and replaced with an apartment building if not for architect W. Gedney Beatty, who owned it at the time and refused to sell.

Among 247 Central Park West’s most noteworthy features today is an indoor, 60-foot lap pool, a domed skylight in the entry parlor and a roof terrace with views of Central Park. It also has an elevator, two offices, and two additional outdoor spaces. [more]

  • From left: Matt Damon, the Apthorp, 271 Central Park West (Source: PropertyShark), 535 West End Avenue

(Updated 5:34 p.m.): Matt Damon may play ultra-stealth Jason Bourne on the silver screen, but when it comes to his New York City apartment search, he couldn’t be more on-the-radar. The actor, who currently resides in a rental unit at the Belnord, at 225 West 86th Street, and has been reportedly looking up and down Central Park West and Fifth Avenue in recent months, was spotted apartment-hunting all over the neighborhood again this weekend. Broker sources confirmed to The Real Deal that he is looking for a permanent abode in the $12 million range. This weekend’s tour included veteran broker Agnes Nolan’s penthouse duplex at 271 Central Park West, currently on the market for $13.9 million, and apartments at both the Apthorp and, as recently as today, at Extell Development’s 535 West End Avenue, according to the sources. He was seen taking a second look at the 535 West End Avenue unit today. Damon, who also owns a loft on Lafayette Street, has been working with a number of brokers on his well-documented search. Previously reports have pegged him at the Beresford, the Majestic, 1010 and 1030 Fifth Avenue, as well as at Adam Gordon’s 26 West 76th Street townhouse, which the Post reported today has since sold to Avis rent-a-car billionaire Henry Silverman for $19.3 million.

  • UWS townhouse developer weighs offers

    February 18, 2010 09:33AM

Developer Adam Gordon’s limestone townhouse at 26 West 76th Street has seen no shortage of celebrity interest, but it may ultimately end up in the hands of one of two high-finance New York families with children who have made offers on the $19.5 million listing, according to the Post. Also on the table is a bid to turn the 10,000-square-foot mansion into a new Kips Bay Decorator Show House. The 19th century home, with six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, two kitchens, a garden and a glass-enclosed penthouse studio, has been ogled by the likes of Matt Damon and Alex Rodriguez, and Gordon has already rejected a bid from reality show producers to have Victoria’s Secret models live in the space for a month during filming. Wendy Maitland and Reid Price of Brown Harris Stevens have the listing. [Post, 2nd item]
