  • Bon Jovi seeks buyer for $45M Soho pad

    October 07, 2011 12:09PM

New Jersey-born rocker Jon Bon Jovi is quietly seeking a buyer for his Soho duplex apartment at 158 Mercer Street, the same building where Mark Madoff, son of Bernie Madoff, committed suicide last year, the New York Post reported, and he’s not aiming low. The music star is reportedly asking a massive $45 million for the six-bedroom, six-and-a-half bathroom pad.

Bon Jovi purchased the 7,400-square-foot home for $24 million in 2007, but it has reportedly undergone a massive renovation since. If the unit gets the $45 million he is currently asking, it would be a record for downtown, and well above the penthouse at Superior Ink, which sold for $31.5 million last year. [Post] [more]

  • In the wake of Ponzi scion Mark Madoff’s suicide, the future of his latest pet project, a Web-based real estate publication known as the Sonar Report is murky. In an e-mail sent today, the RERA Report paints itself as a replacement for Sonar Report readers. TRD [more]

While the grizzly details of Ponzi scion Mark Madoff’s suicide have been uncovered in recent days, that same level of attention hasn’t been paid to the months leading up to his death — until now. Bernard Madoff’s son struggled to shed the stigma of his infamous surname since his father was arrested in 2008, and had stepped into the publishing world, launching Strategic Research Advisors, according to the New York Times. When Mark Madoff took his life, the business had just begun to get off the ground, sending out an industry newsletter that culled top real estate news stories from various outlets, including The Real Deal. • Mark Madoff and the Nantucket house at 51 Wanoma Way

The beach house in Montauk found a buyer quickly, and for more than its list price. Now, as the investigation into the fraud run by Bernard Madoff expands to include his family members, some are wondering what will become of son Mark Madoff’s getaway on Nantucket, a well-heeled resort island off the Massachusetts coast. The five-bedroom waterfront home is not yet on the market, Nantucket brokers say, though a sale is entirely possible, owing to the increasing amount of trouble Mark seems to be in. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it were listed,” said Gary Winn, a principal with Maury People Sotheby’s International Realty, who has no connection to the Madoffs or the property. But the house, which Mark bought for $6.5 million in 2008, just months before Bernie’s $65 billion Ponzi scheme was exposed, was being used until recently. [more]
