    Halstead Property named Richard Orenstein its 2012 broker of the year in New York and New Jersey, as well as broker of the year for Soho, at its annual meeting held Monday, the brokerage said today. Orenstein, who works out of the firm’s Soho office, was named top broker for 2011 as well. Other award winners include Christopher Halstead, an executive vice president and nephew of the firm’s co-founder Clark Halstead, who took home an honor for brokering the priciest sale of the year for a $40.5 million deal that closed in December. (The firm declined to reveal further details, and the sale has not yet hit public records.) [more]

    A noteworthy architect’s renovation can lend a certain cachet to a New York City apartment. If the architect in question called the residence home, so much the better. That’s the case with a duplex condominium in Tribeca of the architect and urban planner Vishaan Chakrabarti, which recently sold for $5.7 million, according to city records filed today.

    Chakrabarti — whose latest post is a partnership at SHoP Architects, the firm that designed the Barclays Center at Atlantic Yards, among other high-profile projects — put his architectural chops to use on his own home, combining two units at 200 Chambers Street into a 3,250-square-foot duplex apartment.     J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler has purchased a Tribeca co-op for more than its $13.5 million listing price, the New York Post reported, though the actual price paid is unclear. Located at 140 Franklin Street at Varick Street inside a landmarked Romanesque revival building, the home was on the market for about one week and was the subject of a bidding war. [more]

    Residential brokerage Halstead Property announced its company-wide awards today, with Richard Orenstein taking home the top prize, Highest Gross Sales Commissions Award for New York and New Jersey. Norman Horowitz was awarded the prize for highest gross commissions in new development marketing, while Pat Publik had the highest number of sales deals closed in the year. Among rental brokers, Senad Ahmetovic had the highest number of rental deals closed in the year, while Shery Saeed clocked in with the highest gross rental commission in a single transaction. TRD

    “Dr. Doom” economist Nouriel Roubini has picked up a $5.45 million unit in the Brick House Condominiums at 6 East 1st Street between Second Avenue and the Bowery, according to Bloomberg. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom apartment — which features a 50-bottle wine refrigerator and wrap terrace — was listed by Halstead Property’s Richard Orentstein. The 3,600-square-foot unit has had a tumultuous history on the market, according to Streeteasy.com. The unit was first listed in November 2006 for $5.35 million, before its asking price grew incrementally to $7.35 million in September 2008. … [more]

    Nicole Kidman’s apartment at Richard Meier’s 176 Perry Street is on the rental market for $45,000 per month. According to city documents, the Aussie movie star purchased the 12th floor apartment in 2003 in the name of her sister, Antonia Hawley. A year later, it was reported that the star had grown dissatisfied with the $8 million home because the construction of Meier’s third tower at 165 Charles Street would impact her Hudson River views. … [more]

The 3,700-square-foot triplex unit at the Brick House Condominiums, which sits between Second Avenue and the Bowery, had an asking price of $5.995 million and had also been available for a $25,000-per-month-lease. Halstead Property had first listed the apartment for $5.35 million in November 2006. The current agent for the unit is Richard Orentstein, an executive vice president with Halstead.
