Mayor Eric Garcetti has a new role in the L.A. housing market: landlord.

Garcetti and his wife, Amy Wakeland, have listed their Mid-Wilshire area home for rent at $5,000 a month. They recently purchased the property for $1.6 million, the L.A. Times reported.

The residence, designed in an English Country style, was built in 1939 but was recently renovated. It features a formal living room with rolled ceilings, a fireplace and an updated kitchen.

In addition to the main house, the property includes two separate apartments, which are listed at $2,000 a month each. They were also recently remodeled and have a separate garage.

The overall property was sold to Garcetti and Wakeland in March. It was listed by Diane Evans and the buyers’ agent was Jacqueline Tager, both of Sotheby’s International Realty.

The Garcetti-Wakeland clan sold their Echo Park house last month for $1.7 million.

Garcetti has drawn ire recently from housing preservationists for his alleged bias toward development interests. His 2016 budget proposal is currently under scrutiny for the fact that it includes two job cuts in the City Planning department. [LAT]Cathaleen Chen
