The Delray City Commission approved the $2.5 million sale of the 10,000-square-foot Old School Square Garage to a nonprofit that operates the garage.

The agreement took months to be put into writing. Residents and some commissioners were concerned about the terms of the contract, particularly that the buyer, the Creative City Collaborative, had to contribute a down payment of no more than $1,000.

“The contract between the city and the CCC is terrible for the city and great for the CCC,” Delray Beach resident Steve Blum told the Sun-Sentinel.

Alyona Ushe, the garage’s executive director, said the group will likely need about 30 months to raise funds for the full price.
