New downtown passenger train service from Orlando to South Florida could cost locals more than they expect.

Local governments will have to spend more to maintain rail crossings in their communities and some may close crossings to cars to save money.

“I am very concerned about the road closures. What happens if I need an ambulance and trains are blocking the tracks?” Broward County resident Elizabeth Fulford asked. “If they close the smaller crossings, how will this affect the police and fire.”

For instance, plans have been announced to close several roads in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, according to the Miami Herald.
