The Bal Harbour Shops and Barneys New York

Barneys New York is interested in possibly adding a store to the Bal Harbour Shops, according to Marc Perlowitz, an executive at the luxury clothing chain.

“We asked the council [for] an expeditious take on the plan,” Perlowitz said at a recent workshop at the Sea View Hotel. “That will certainly assist us in our final determination.”

Currently, the Bal Harbour Shops is planning a 350,000-square-foot expansion that will add at least 20 specialty retail boutiques, a luxury theater and a multi-purpose community plaza, according to the Miami Herald. If approved, the $300 million expansion would be completed as early as 2018. [Miami Herald] Christopher Cameron

Barney’s would be such a natural fit in the Bal Harbour Shops. I haven’t read much about the luxury theater, but that concept seems interesting for the area considering the only other theater nearby is the always crowded Aventura Mall. Barney’s would be an easy fit for a new store, as well as other exclusive retailers like Bergdorf Goodman, though I haven’t heard word about them yet.

The economic success of Bal Harbour isn’t just in the shops themselves, but also in the Bal Harbour real estate, which is also having succesful and high volume trends.

I’ll be anxious to hear what other tenants are planning to be a part of the BHS expansion! 🙂

Luxury theater is an IPic knock off. Not the real thing.
