A local self-storage brand in Boynton Beach just sold its only location to a national chain for $10.5 million.
Signature Self Storage, which operated out of the facility at 7960 Venture Center Way for roughly eight years, sold its 4-acre property to the CubeSmart self-storage company early last week, according to Palm Beach County records.
Signature is headed by Herbert F. Kahlert of West Palm Beach. He and his family’s estate built the storage center in 2007 and began renting units ranging from 25 square feet to 300 square feet.
The location is under new management, according to the company’s website. CubeSmart already has four self-storage facilities in Boynton Beach, including one less than a mile away at 7358 Boynton Beach Boulevard.
Kahlert was targeted in 2010 by his former wife, the late Patricia Kahlert of Hypoluxo, in a series of lawsuits aimed at his property holdings, including the Venture Center storage facility.
The two amicably resolved their differences in 2014, and she later filed a series of releases, effectively dismissing all the suits, according to county records. Patricia passed a year later.
