Dania Beach roller coaster will come down next year

A long-closed roller coaster in Dania Beach, an eyesore just east of Interstate 95, will be demolished next year.

The wooden roller coaster known as the Hurricane is located within a 102-acre site for a mixed-use development called Dania Pointe.

Master Development of Aventura and Salzman Real Estate Advisors of Dania Beach assembled the 102 acres and entered a joint venture to develop Dania Pointe with Kimco Realty.

Paul Puma, president of the southern region of Kimco Realty, told the Sun-Sentinel the roller coaster, which closed in 2011,  will be demolished in the first quarter of 2016.

Puma said the 35-acre first phase of Dania Pointe will include discount retail outlets and “big box” stores and will be completed by the fall of 2017.

Additional phases of Dania Pointe, formerly known as DaniaLive, will include construction of more retail stores, restaurants, residential buildings, two hotels and office space. [Sun-Sentinel] — Mike Seemuth
