The city of Fort Lauderdale has hired commercial property brokerage CBRE to solicit plans to redevelop the city-owned Las Olas Marina.

The marina has 60 slips and almost five acres of submerged land and uplands on the Intracoastal Waterway’s eastern side. Operators of vessels up to 170 feet long can dock at the marina, located at 240 East Las Olas Circle in Fort Lauderdale.

The city wants a redevelopment that includes dredging part of the uplands to clear the way for so-called mega yachts up to 550 feet long, according to CBRE. The city also wants extended docks and a deepened marina basin.

CBRE will accept redevelopment proposals for the Las Olas Marina until 2 p.m. on January 28.

About a year ago, the city government was reviewing different proposals to redevelop the marina. One developer proposed building a 220-room hotel and a four-story parking garage that also houses restaurants and offices. [Sun-Sentinel]  Mike Seemuth
