Cabo Flats opens Dolphin Mall location, plans rapid expansion

Cabo Flats Cantina & Tequila Bar has opened its latest location at the Dolphin Mall in Sweetwater, and its ownership is planning a rapid expansion throughout Florida.

The Mexican-style eatery held a grand opening for its 9,750-square-foot Dolphin Mall location last weekend, marking Cabo’s fifth South Florida location to open in the last two years.

The Dolphin Mall location has a total of 9,750 square feet split between two concepts: the sit-down restaurant takes up about 7,000 square feet, while the brand’s fast casual Cabo Fresh — which is geared toward takeout — covers 2,000 square feet.

This location is Cabo Flats’ first in Miami-Dade County, though the ownership says it wont be the last.

Jeff Sussman, Cabo’s director of real estate, said owner Steve Giordanella plans to open three or four more Cabo Flats eateries in the county. One lease for a space at the upcoming CityPlace Doral development has already been signed, plus another at the Westfork Mall in Pembroke Pines.

Cabo Flats’ ultimate goal, Sussman said, is to open 20 restaurants throughout Florida in major metros like Jacksonville, Tampa and Orlando.
