Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine opines on height increase kerfuffle

Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine delivered what he viewed as a dose of reality at a commission meeting on Wednesday.

Preservationist Daniel Ciraldo has been collecting signatures on a petition to change the Miami Beach’s charter so that building height increases three feet above what is allowed would have to go to voters for approval, but he failed to get the required number in time for Wednesday’s meeting. With three weeks to go, Ciraldo vowed to get the signatures in time to put the question on the November ballot.

Levine’s response? “This is a solution looking for a problem. … I don’t hear people calling me or emailing me that everything is too high. I haven’t heard that.”
