Orange County imposed a nine-month moratorium on the issuance of development permits for medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of the county. Two municipalities in Central Florida, Orlando and Winter Garden, previously imposed temporary bans on the establishment of such dispensaries.

Counties and municipalities can limit the number of medical marijuana outlets within their border if their actions don’t violate state law. In 2014, the Florida Legislature legalized a non-euphoric type of marijuana to treat children who suffer from seizures.
