Those convicted of mortgage fraud in South Florida might soon see
harsher sentences as the economy worsens. Penalties in mortgage fraud
cases usually correspond to the amount of money lost. As the
foreclosure crisis creates larger losses, punishments in fraud cases
are becoming stiffer. Yesterday, Coral Springs resident Anthony Dehaney was sentenced to eight years in prison, despite the prosecutor’s recommendation of a five-year sentence, after orchestrating a $10 million mortgage fraud scheme.
