Bid for Royal Poinciana Way historic district in Palm Beach falls short

A bid to have Palm Beach’s Royal Poinciana Way declared a historic district fell short yesterday, according to the Palm Beach Daily News. The motion was made by Wiliam Cooley, an outgoing member of the town’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. William Feldkamp, a member of the commission, criticized the timing of the vote, which came one day before the Town Council votes on a large-scale zoning change to allow the Testa Family to expand its property on the street. Susan Markin, a former Town Councilwoman, said the street deserved landmark status. “There is no other location in Palm Beach that is more historic than Royal Poinciana Way,” she said. “It represents the beginning of our town.” [Palm Beach Daily News]
